November 20 ~ Today I am thankful for old friendships. Last night I got to spend some time reconnecting with someone I’ve been friends with since we were in grade school. We won’t go into how many decades we’ve been friends, but I will say that her friendship has always been a blessing to me 🙂
We had been trying to schedule a time to spend some time together, but were having a hard time choosing a date that worked for both of our busy schedules. After numerous texts, she mentioned she couldn’t meet me somewhere last night because she was going to be babysitting for her newborn grandson. I jumped right on that and invited myself over to her house to “help” … anything to get to hold and love on a little baby ♥
As always, it was like we were never apart. To me, that’s a sign of a true lifelong friendship. Even though we sometimes go 6 or more months without talking, we always seem fall into our own natural rhythm … just picking up the conversation wherever we left off last time 🙂
November 19 ~ Today I am thankful for the sky. I’ve always been fascinated with the sky … it has so many different characteristics, displaying a multitude of colors … many varying shades of blue, from bright vibrant blue with puffy white clouds on a sunny day to dark navy blue on a star studded night. It’s grey and threatening on a stormy day. The glorious color palette is awe-inspiring at both sunrise and sunset. So many different types and shapes of clouds … and lets not forget about rainbows! Oh, and the sun and the moon … one of my favorite things is to see the sun glistening on water – or – dappling through the trees. I love how bright it is when a full moon is shining down on a freshly fallen snow !
November 18 ~ Today I am thankful for changing seasons. I’m blessed to live in an area of the country where the seasons actually change. The weather in the Chicagoland area often gets a bad rap. It seems we have every extreme known to mankind (slight exaggeration … maybe). From hot & humid to frostbite below zero wind-chill temps … from drought, Smokey the Bear warnings dry to flash flooding … and throw tornadoes and blizzards into the mix and well, you get a pretty good picture 🙂
Along with the multitude of weather scenarios, we get all four seasons. Fall is my favorite … I just love the gorgeous color of the leaves, and pretty much anything pumpkin flavored 🙂 I count it a blessing to live in an area where we get to experience the change with each season.
November 17 ~ Today I am thankful for my washer and dryer … modern conveniences that I take for granted every week. With the wet, stormy weather last night, I chose to stay home and stay nice and dry. I decided to have a relaxing evening reading a book and getting some laundry done.
As you already know, reading is one of my favorite hobbies. I love historical fiction and was reading a novel about the pioneers settling the west. In the late 1800’s, you worked from before the sun came up til after it set. A housewife was always busy. Everything was done by hand … sewing, cooking, cleaning, canning … the weekly chores were never ending.
It’s hard to imagine such a life when I’m surrounded by so many modern conveniences. I’m so blessed to not have to pump water by hand – then heat it – scrub each garment by hand – rinse out the soap (that I had to make) – wring them out – hang them to dry – then fold them.
Last night, while reading my book relaxing in a nice comfy recliner, I did 4 loads of laundry from start to finish. I am so thankful for my automatic washing machine and dryer … for hot and cold running water … for so many inventions that make homemaking so much easier than it was back in pioneer days 🙂
♥ Today I am thankful for modern conveniences like my washer and dryer ♥
November 16 ~ Today I am thankful to have an honest and trustworthy mechanic. I am blessed with the peace of mind of knowing that I can trust that I won’t be taken advantage of (you know the reputation of some auto repair places). Over the past few days, I’ve posted about being thankful for my reliable vehicle and for the friendships I’ve made through my church. Today my post ties those 2 things together in my thankfulness for knowing Terry. Terry belongs to our church and he owns Krage’s Auto & Tire Center, a Goodyear service center in West Chicago. If you are in the market for a great mechanic, give them a call 🙂
We have been taking our cars to Krage’s for years. Terry always takes time to explain everything to me in great detail. His customer service skills are top notch. I posted earlier about being thankful for a reliable car … we have, however, been looking for a newer model used vehicle. Terry has helped in our search and has inspected a couple that he advised us against. I trust his knowledgeable advice. I know that the next used car we buy will have passed his scrutiny 🙂

November 15 ~ Today I am thankful for my church family. My family and I have been members at Our Savior for the last 14 years. The pastoral staff knows us personally and is very encouraging and supportive. It comforts me that I can call my pastor to talk something through – crisis or not.
I’ve always been active in many of their various ministries and activities. Over the years I’ve been part of VBS, the choir, small groups, Bible studies, altar guild, confirmation, youth group, and even the bowling league 🙂 All that is to say, that I have formed many relationships and good friendships throughout the years. It’s always nice to know and to be known … Our Savior is a like a second home and family for me, a true blessing !
Imagine if you were in a tragic accident – unable to move or speak but otherwise cognizant of everything around you. Imagine hearing doctors deciding your fate without you having a voice in the outcome.
Alex is a 16-year-old girl who finds herself in that exact situation in Both Sides, a novel that begins when – while on a class field trip – Alex and another girl, Sandra, end up in a horrible accident.
If the doctors act quickly, they may be able to save one body…and one brain. Amid the confusion and uncertainty, we hear everything that’s going on in Alex’s mind – from her initial disbelief to her quips about the absurdity of it all to her realization that she may have to go through the rest of her life living in the body of a girl she couldn’t stand. If she survives.
Both Sides tackles these issues and more. Within its pages every reader will find her own answers and discover, in the end, a story of courage and a girl who never before existed.
Award-winning author Paul E. Stawski captures the minute-by-minute struggles of a 16-year-old girl whose world is suddenly turned upside down in Both Sides. Radical brain surgery is the only option. Time is running out and Alex’s mind is racing: will she still be the same person when she comes out on the other side?
November 14 ~ Today I am thankful for a family that supports and encourages me. I know that I am loved and accepted … warts and all. I am so very thankful to have a family that is there for me through thick and thin … I know that I am truly blessed.
I started my own business, Tracy Helps You, at the beginning of this year and my husband and kids have wholeheartedly supported me. They believe the services I offer are needed and they trust that my business will be successful. Owning my own business is, of course, new to me and sometimes I can feel a little overwhelmed. They are always willing to listen and offer an encouraging word.
I am also thankful for my cousin, Terri, who has been a tremendous help to me. She is a professional genealogist, and has owned her own business for many years. She truly loves researching and investigating family histories. If you ever want to look into your family tree, contact her … you won’t regret it 🙂 If you’re interested and live locally, she is giving a (free) lecture at the Wheaton Public Library on November 20, at 7pm. Since she has had the experience of running her own business for a while, she has been graciously giving me advice on owning a home-based business. She is also my go-to person for all things website related … I call her my WordPress Wonder Woman ! She has been an enormous help to me and I am so thankful for her support and for our relationship 🙂

November 13 ~ Today I am thankful to own a reliable vehicle. It’s not fancy or new, but it gets me where I need to go. I just take it for granted that I can just get in and go.
That thought really hit home for me this morning while I was out running some errands. I was sort of dreading going grocery shopping this morning because it was an awfully cold morning in the Chicago suburbs. As I was driving, I noticed 2 people riding bicycles and couldn’t imagine how cold they must be. On the way home from the store, I noticed a mom holding a little boys hand while waiting at the bus stop. She had quite a few grocery bags to carry while keeping her child safe. That sight made me feel guilty that I complain about wanting a newer car.
I am so blessed to have a reliable car … I don’t have to rely on riding a bike or depending on the different bus routes and schedules to get where I’m going. Grocery shopping was easy for me, my kids were safe in the shopping cart while I loaded my groceries in my car … no standing on corners waiting in all different kinds of weather … no carrying the heavy bags long distances … no transferring to other buses … my kids safely buckled into car seats for the short ride home. Yes, I am truly blessed to have reliable transportation and will try very hard not to take it for granted any longer.
♥ Today I am so very thankful to have a reliable vehicle ♥
November 12 ~ Today is Eleven, Twelve, Thirteen … and today I am thankful for my gift of attention to detail.
Being detail oriented is a gift I’ve been blessed with for as long as I can remember. My eye has always been drawn to sequence / patterns like this. As a kid, I used to get “Highlights for Children” magazine. My favorite part was the page where they showed you 2 similar pictures and you had to find the differences. I’ve always been pretty good at word search puzzles too 🙂
This attention to detail comes in handy for more than just fun and games. It has helped me to become a pretty good organizer. It seems my mind just naturally likes things to be in a logical order. I have always been detail oriented and just love sorting things out and storing the like things together. In hindsight, this probably explains my love of baskets and containers 🙂
I think I’ll end with a joke (sorry, but you probably know what’s coming) … Why was 6 afraid of 7 ~ because 7 ate 9 … hahaha 🙂
♥ Today I am thankful for my gift of attention to detail ♥
