Black Friday isn’t what it used to be. When my kids were young … you know, back in the day, I used to shop on Black Friday. That was when the coolest toys were on sale, and if you didn’t want disappointed kiddos on Christmas morning, you braved the crack of dawn time, the weather & the crowds. Back in the 90’s, before everyone was online, stores ordered a certain number of the item and when they were sold out, that was pretty much it … waiting to see if another shipment came in before Christmas was a big gamble. So, I went …
Unlike in today’s 24/7 world we currently live, stores opened for their Black Friday sales at 6am. I’ve never camped out waiting for the doors to open, but I tried to arrive at the opening time. Even though I don’t like crowds and I’m not a fan of waiting in long lines to check out, I was usually able to get the sought after item I came for. Plus, I usually came home with additional gifts too.
This year, I’m going to try to do most of my Christmas shopping online. I joined Amazon Prime, and so far I love it. FYI ~ They were advertising Kindle Fires for $34 … I paid $100 for mine ! Many stores had their Black Friday sales all week long. Last Tuesday, I bought (ordered) several gifts from Kohl’s week long sale. I spent $110 for 8 items. I’ll get $30 Kohl’s Cash and 2 $10 rebates (gift cards) in return. So, technically, I actually got 8 items for 60 bucks … I just love a good deal 🙂
As long as I get free shipping / free returns and they get delivered on time, I think I could get used to shopping this way. Probably not for everything, I still like actually going to the stores … some things I like to see & touch in person.
