Valentine's Day ... Everyday

Happy Valentine’s Day … Everyday <3

It is already the middle of February  … wow, time sure is flying by quickly. I realize that I’ve mentioned time going fast before, but, am I the only one that feels that way ~ I hope not.

Personally, I don’t believe that Valentine’s Day is only about romantic love relationships. I believe it is about all kinds of caring relationships … parents/children, siblings/cousins, friends, as well as dating/marriage relationships.

We humans are emotional beings – we need love and affection! Most people seem to flourish when they spend some time with others they care about on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be anything special, just spending time together is what is important.
Last weekend, I attended a memorial service for someone who died much, much too young. One thing I took away from it was the reminder that tomorrow is not guaranteed. We like to think that we have all the time in the world … but the reality is that we don’t; things can happen in the blink of an eye.

So, don’t wait until tomorrow to let someone know that you care about them – let them know now. Call a family member that you have fallen out of touch with … go to lunch with a friend … hug your kid … kiss your sweetheart <3

I guess my point is that everyone craves some affection (some more than others, so respect their wishes). One of my favorite sayings is “never underestimate the power of a good hug”. A hug conveys that you truly care … even when you don’t have the words to express it.

I’m coming to realize, that even a total stranger can be affected with just smile or kind word. We have no way of knowing what that person may be dealing with … the kindness we show them may be the highlight of an otherwise bad day. In today’s society, it is so easy for people to become isolated. People seem to be more involved with their electronic gadgets than with the people who are physically near them. Face to face conversations seem to be becoming a thing of the past.

This Valentine’s Day (and going forward), I want to celebrate all my relationships … with my husband, with my kids, with my extended family, with my friends and with my clients/coworkers (many of whom I now consider my friends). Last weekend lit a spark in me to reach out and get in touch with people who seem to have fallen through the cracks of my busy life. I’ve made several calls this week and my social calendar is now filling up with lunch dates and get togethers 🙂

Live each day as the gift it really is … don’t wait to show people how much you care about them <3
