Getting Organized ~ Jewelry

Getting Organized ~ Jewelry

This weekend, my church is having their annual garage sale. It is a huge event every year, and all the profits get donated to local area charities, like PADS and Neighborhood Food Pantry. Each spring, I try to get an area of my home more organized. Finding things to donate for this good cause helps to get me motivated 🙂

During the week, I’ve been sorting through our things to decide what I’d like to donate. In years past, I’ve concentrated on clothing, shoes & purses, holiday decorations, kitchenware, books, etc.

This year, I gathered those type items, but I also decided to sort through my costume jewelry. I love shopping at places like Charming Charlie’s, especially their clearance section. Over the years, I’ve accumulated quite a collection. I usually stored my necklaces and bracelets in various cloth draw-string bags, vinyl zippered pouches. I stored my earrings in a beautiful decorative brass bowl that my friends brought back for me from her trip to India.

It was getting hard to remember what & where I stored these pieces. I would know I had a certain pair of earring that would go perfectly with my outfit, but not be able to find them in a moment or two.

So I decided while I was sorting through all of it, that I wanted to store it in a more organized manner. I found a cute little rack that hangs on the wall. I also like that you can see everything … all your choices in plain sight 🙂

Show Everyone Some Real Love on Valentine’s Day

February 14th ~ Valentine’s Day … it has very different meanings for different people at different stages of life. Some people think it is just a Hallmark holiday … a marketing ploy to boost sales of romantic cards, flowers, candy and jewelry. Some people think Valentine’s Day is the “be all – end all”. They think life is worthless if you’re not in a relationship on this day 🙁

This way of thinking makes me so sad. Everyone needs love, REAL LOVE … not only on this day, but every day. I’m not talking about mushy romantic gifts plastered with hearts, but love in the truest form of the word. Let people know that you truly care for them … family, friends, neighbors, and strangers. We may never know what they are really dealing with because many people put on a façade for the world to see. We have no way of knowing what goes on behind closed doors, but I think it would be a safe assumption to say everyone needs more love in their life.

So here is your “call to action”  ~  pay for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop … meet a friend for a Galentine lunch date … smile & pay someone a genuine compliment. Just the other day, a total stranger told me she thought my hair was beautiful ~ it still warms my heart just remembering it ♥

I follow a few blogs and 2 have really struck me this week … http://lysaterkeurst.com/2014/02/5-ways-to-survive-love-season/  and  http://mandisaofficial.com/home/single-appreciation-week-day-1/  … check them out and let me know your thoughts & Don’t forget to tell me how you shared your love with others today ♥

Handmade Thanksgiving Card

Tracy Helps You’s Thankful Thoughts for Today ~ 11-21-13

November 21 ~ Today I am thankful for the gift of creativity. I’ve been blessed with a flair for creating. I love to arrange things so that they are appealing to the eye. Being a slight perfectionist, I don’t like to stop til I’m satisfied that whatever I’m working on will be appealing.

I’ve always been creative … I have memories of helping make craft items to sell at my Great Aunt Ruth’s Annual Christmas Bazaar at her church. My Grandma taught me to crochet when I was 9 years old. I remember I crocheted a miniature afghan for Garfield Goose (a popular kids show when I was growing up) and sent it in to the show. I was so excited when they showed it and thanked me for it on TV 🙂

I’m older now, but still love doing crafts as a creative outlet. These days I enjoy floral arranging, making jewelry and scrapbooking. I’m part of a card making ministry at my church. Every month, we send handmade cards to all the seniors in our congregation. It warms my heart when they tell me how much they love them and how thankful they are to receive them.

I also love working on “behind the scenes” committees for stage plays. Working on live theater productions is always exciting … you never know when something is going to go wrong and you have only a couple of minutes to fix it. I’ve helped on costumes, sets and props.  Props is definitely my favorite … I just love “getting in the zone” and working to create convincing scenes 🙂
