November 21, 2014 ~ Today I am thankful for electricity. I confess … I totally take it for granted. It’s just there, at the press of a button or flip of a switch – until it’s not. The power outages that I typically have usually only last hours … which is plenty long enough for me to realize how much I depend on it being there for me when I need it.
It is mind boggling how enmeshed my life is in using appliances that run on electricity. On a rare (for me) stay at home type day last month, my power was out for about 7 hours in the middle of the day. I had plans for cleaning house, doing laundry and working on my blog and website. I was ready to multi-task and be super productive. My plan was to get a load of laundry going, get dinner in the crockpot, and then dust and vacuum before working on the computer. Then it hit me … the only thing on my to-do list that I could actually do was dust (which I did). When I finished dusting, I thought, ok – plan B, I’ll start reading the next book I’m reviewing. I was going to warm up my coffee from that morning and realized … duh … can’t use the microwave 🙁 So I poured myself a glass of juice and sat down to read on my Kindle. Well, of course, the battery died within 10 minutes.
So on to Plan C – I packed up my laptop, Kindle and iPhone (and their chargers) and went to the library to work on my blog. I sat in a corner near an outlet and plugged all the different chargers in … all the wires were a tangled mess, but I was happy to get all my batteries charged. When I got home a few hours later, the power was back on 🙂
